5 Step Coaching Formula For Giving Yourself a Raise – Pain, Solution, Process, Mentor, & Action
I was in others deep pain. I lost all my customers in one day. I received a letter telling me that the person who gave me access to the business owners of a large marketing products company is no longer employed in the corporate office. He became a franchise owner himself. He was replaced by someone who wanted to take a different side – and that included a decision no to use my services.
1. Identify the Pain
What was my pain?
Here I was, a single mother with three children, a mortgage to pay and I had just lost my source of income!
The real problem was that I had no idea how to get clients out of the relationships I had built in my previous business as a retail products salesperson. I had no income, and no idea how to get clients for my coaching business – And it was just the beginning of the current “recession” we are in. All I could see was that NO ONE was spending money.
2. Identify the Solution
I realized that I needed to find clients who were already looking for a coach rather than trying to convince someone to hire me when they probably didn’t realize they needed a coach yet.
Before I could get the clients I wanted (or at least were looking for life success solutions) and become a life success coach, I needed to explain how to do that on a larger scale than my circle. Influence – people I’ve seen as “non-spending”. What I wanted someone to create a road map or a set of instructions for me to follow so that I may be found with my proper vision.
3. Identify the Block
One day I was sitting there with a letter from the business office and I was seized with fear. What if I don’t get new customers? What if I didn’t get the right instructions to help me understand what to do and how to reach people who were already looking for… someone – anyone… who was looking for life success coaching?
After I sold my retail product business and took on clients within the business, I didn’t leave for an undisclosed location, until the day I received that letter, when by force to figure out what to do next.
4. Identify the Process
Here’s what I know so far as I’ve been thinking “What’s next?”:
- I needed to make a living for myself and my children, and fast!
- I needed to find opportunities with clients who had money to invest, who were looking at what I had to offer as a coach from a big impact level.
- I had to overcome this fear of the unknown of how to find clients outside of the field I had just spent 16 years of my adult life in.
- I wanted an action plan and a process that I could follow from someone who had successfully gotten clients using the same strategy.
In Systematic Learning
I read and used several people’s methods online when I was building my own affiliate marketing business, so I had a pretty good place to start. I went back to find many of the people I had read about that had already worked for me.
I soon learned that a lot has changed in Internet marketing in just a year. I had to teach myself a lot of tools that I didn’t use in my retail product business. Things like blogs, social bookmarking, social networking, article marketing were all new to me. By myself dabbled each of them and was not very impressed with the results.
I could post to my blog and watch my stats – but I wasn’t getting any visitors. I have used social bookmarking for my personal benefit to find and remember sites that are valuable to me. I didn’t understand how and why to share links.
One thing I did that gave me interesting results was starting my own Internet Radio Show. I was brave enough to start inviting guests from a group of people who had the material—email, telecourses, and blogs—that I learned from to join me as guests on my show. Anyway, I started two shows – both started to develop a following. At first I didn’t realize that I could read the stats on TalkShoe.com to see how many people had downloaded my show. Sometimes I would record the show and nobody but me and the guest would get the call – but after the show was recorded, hundreds of people would download the show every week!
Although I did find something that finally got attention and attracted clients to my radio show – it was very hit or miss.
I wanted an integrated system that would always work – and work whether I was working or not – 24/7 every day! As a coach I also knew the best use of my time is to find a mentor, a coach, who had found a way bringing customers to them through a process that I can learn and repeat.
One day I was invited to participate in a program that would change my life. They were 60-day commitments amounting to about two hours a day. I almost didn’t. I almost said I didn’t have time because I was busy I’m trying to build my coaching business.
This program gave me the opportunity to be look under the hoodso to speak, to see A thriving online marketing engine in action and step by step I put practice and self-service. This changed everything for me. Everything. I will always be grateful to the person who started that program.
5. From process to action
What I see most coaches doing is what I started doing until I figured out what step by step to run my business to attract my ideal client – and that is. To play through all the steps, you never really understand how they all work together.
Worse than that, I know many coaches, who know they should be doing certain things – but they don’t do what they know how to do consistently. If my entire business is going down I know it’s because I haven’t continued to practice what I know and educate my clients.
You have to start using what you know and figure out what you don’t know – and it’s much easier with a coach or mentor to guide them on their journey.
This story describes a practice that can be used in many different situations to create a successful outcome in the midst of change. These simple steps can help you take your training to the next level:

- Find a mentor to guide you through the process
- Take action in the process
