Lessons I Learned on Vacation
Towards the end of the year I heard a few so-called “business experts” talk about how you can make a lot of money with little to no effort. My BS meter is off the charts and made me think hard about reality.
While on vacation in January, I thought a lot about the importance of authenticity in personal products, services, and marketing. Loyalty is more than just delivering what you promised; it’s also about being true to yourself. In other words, it’s about creating a business based on your values and priorities.
Finding your way
It feels good to be able to attach your name and face to a business you truly believe in, and believing in your business is a great way to make more money without feeling like you’re doing a job. As Confucius said “Choose a job you love, and you’ll never work a day in your life.”
Over the holidays, I admitted to myself that there was one aspect of my business that I had been resisting: working on my JJS Members Inner Circle. I love organizing groups, public speaking, giving programs, and working with my private clients, but the weekly video shoot for the Inner Circle member site was starting to feel like work (in a bad way). I was saving myself drops until the last minute, and I wasn’t happy. I knew I needed to change, but I wasn’t sure what that change would look like.
Last week I spoke with a client who told me he was going through a “current fix.” He felt lost and said, “It doesn’t make me happy because I don’t know what it is.” Together we discovered that he had deviated from his behavior and priorities. We worked to get him on the right track, and at the end of our session he always said how excited he was and that his new plan “felt good.” He even said that he was happy about his field work!
This really rang a bell in my mind because I was going with my own existing fix. I’ve been evaluating my pricing and priorities and making a few changes to my services and product funnel. Another change will be revamping the JJS Members Inner Circle to support programs, workshops, groups, and my favorite sponsors. I’m talking to Ken Gary (my Affiliate Site Expert) about the best way. I will keep you posted on this.
Acting according to your standards
Having a clear vision of who you are (your values) and what is most important to you (your priorities) will help you create a successful and profitable business. Trying to build a successful business that doesn’t align with your values and priorities is very difficult, and in the end you can either fail or succeed and be miserable. It’s much easier to find success and happiness by aligning your actions with your priorities and values.
When your business matches your values, you feel refreshed. The actions required for success sound very easy to do. You feel inspired. For example, if one of your values is helping others and in your business you solve a customer’s problem, you will feel good – really good! Working with that customer becomes easy, fun, and enjoyable. Your values power every action you take.
At this point, when you consistently take actions that align with your values, you will find that opportunities, clients, and income come naturally to you. Your symptoms will give you clarity and focus. Identifying and prioritizing your values will create positive results in all important areas of life and business, and will ensure that the two combine in positive ways.
To succeed without struggling and be happy with what you do, always take actions that align with your values and priorities. It’s a simple formula: Values + Priorities = Business Success and happiness more easily.

2. Make a list of the top 5 things you always avoid in your business. These are actions that feel like work, things you wish someone would take away from you, or wake up in the morning dreading.
3. Compare your “love” and “hate” list to your priorities and values. Do you need to make changes in your business?
