Your Fall Success Checklist – 6 Tips to Help You Tame Your Time Management Challenges

I recently spoke and facilitated a meeting for a small group of established entrepreneurs. The topic was time management – a challenge for many who build a home business. The issues they have put in place are common among entrepreneurs and especially if you sell directly. There is so much to do and so little time.

The juggle and struggle to manage professional and personal priorities is challenging. This requires planning. Set your goal to find a formula that meets the needs of work and home. When you spend too much time on your business, your family struggles! Too little time is spent on business, and your results are minimal.

At different levels, your personal needs will change. What prioritizes the responsibilities of a WAHM with young children is different when they are in school. Summer schedules differ from fall schedules. August is the time to take in our last days of summer and make your plans for an amazing fall. Always be open to changing your approach and look for balance.

Here’s a list of Fall Success and 6 early tips to help you manage your time management challenges this fall:

___1. Schedule your office hours – extend your schedule to avoid distractions.

Plan your fall work schedule. This doesn’t just mean posting your office hours; but decide whether you work in the management or design side of your business. Set your time blocks for outgoing calls, and when to return calls and emails. By combining these activities together, you will be more efficient in your communication. I spend about 1/3 of my time with clients, 1/3 marketing my business and 1/3 content developing. Figure out your priorities and allocate time accordingly.

___2. Make regular appointments with yourself – focus on the tasks you refuse to put off.

If you often find that you are not giving enough time to promote and market your business, add more information to your plan. Make a map on paper and make a regular appointment with yourself to do it. The promises you make and keep to yourself are very important.

___3. Forget multitasking!

Multitasking is not what it was cracked up to be. Research suggests that multitasking, especially when learning new information, is counterproductive. 1″The best thing you can do to improve your memory is to pay attention to the things you want to remember,” Poldrack, co-author of the study, added. “Our data supports that. When distractions force you to pay less attention to what you’re doing, you’re not learning as well as paying full attention.” This affects your ability to do your job as well. Practice surrendering to the moment. You will be stronger and more active at the end of the day. Give your attention to things with HIGH INFLUENCE. These are the actions that move your business forward with sensitivity to the best investment of time, money and resources; and have the potential to give you the highest return on your investment. I always review my list and ask, ‘What are my top influencers?’ it must be done today. To these things give your full attention.

___4. Get creative with organizations.

Being involved in a few organizations (NAWBO, LIKE MINDED MOMS, ASTD, COC) that align with my interests and connect with people with similar goals has been instrumental in my success. It is not enough to join the organization it is important to contribute. Choose from the assignments you accept and look for opportunities to make a difference.

___5. To find a better balance – schedule both ‘time in’ and ‘time off’ in your business.

You don’t just need a work schedule, a marketing plan, a marketing plan, and a communication plan. You need to make your vacation plan. Schedule times when you will not work. After years of coaching entrepreneurs and being one myself, the work never got done. Set parameters and follow them reliably; success will follow.

___6. Set boundaries with your business – create personal policies.I try to do one pro bono a month, which occasionally results in a lot of requests. Determine what your policy is for volunteering or offering products or services. Up front, dealing with these requests makes it easier to give clear answers and creates a precedent for the future.

Follow this “Fall Success List” and hopefully you’ll make time for your things and priorities. Now is the time to plan your fall spectacular. Remember that if you approach your business the same way you always have, you will get the same results. Grow up, make your plan and set your schedule to succeed!
