Fantasy Golf – Running a Fantasy Golf Auction

There are many different ways to run a golf league, and I have found that having an auction style draft is the most fun and challenging way to run your league. Over the past several years, I have participated in many different golf clubs. But last year, 12 other friends and I decided to run an auction style league. I was surprised at how good it was! This article will cover the fantasy golf auction format, how to run the draft, and managing your new league after all the teams are drafted.

First, let’s talk about what a golf auction is. The fantasy golf auction allows various team owners to draft golfers for their fantasy team. Team owners will bid on the selected golfer, and the highest bidder will receive that golfer to add to their roster. In an auction style draft, golfers can only be drafted by one and only one team. Each team has an auction dollar amount that they cannot exceed when filling their roster.

To run your golf auction, you will need between 5 and 20 club owners to participate. Any amount below 5 will make team building very easy and any amount above 20 will be very difficult. Setting up a bidding order can draw words out of a hat. A bidding order will only affect the golfer selected to be bid on. The first bidder will decide which golf course to bid on, and how much they start bidding on. After the first initial bid, any party may bid an additional amount until the bid ends. After bidding ends on a golf, the next team in the bidding order will select another golf. This process continues until all team rosters are full.

You will also need to determine the size of the roster and the maximum and minimum bids. In the auction I participated in, each list was made up of 10 golfers. We’ve set a bid cap of up to $100 per auction per group, with a minimum bid of $1 per auction. To calculate the maximum amount a team can spend on golf, you can use the following formula:

A = Team’s remaining auction dollars

B = Areas of the group’s open list

C = Minimum bid price

A – ((B – 1) * C)

That’s it. After that, club owners can watch various PGA tournaments and cheer on their golfers. I think you’d be surprised how much fun you can have watching golf when you have 10 golfers to root for.
