The Myth About Soy – Is Soy Making You Fat?
Did you know that you may be poisoning your body with high levels of toxins produced by too much soy in your diet? Research has shown that a diet based on soy at any age can lead to a weak thyroid, which often produces heart problems and excess fat. Could this explain the dramatic increase in obesity today?
Do you suffer from obesity or excess weight? If you eat foods rich in soy, it can have a negative impact on your health, not to mention ruining your weight loss goals.
Most people are unaware of the many toxic chemicals contained in soy. One of them is phytic acid, also called phytates. These acids prevent the body from absorbing important minerals such as calcium, magnesium, iron and especially zinc. Unfortunately, soybeans are very resistant to methods of reducing phytate, such as slow cooking for a long time, so removing this toxin is nothing short of impossible.
Soybeans also contain powerful enzyme inhibitors. These restrictions prevent the discovery of trypsin and other enzymes needed by the body to digest protein, which causes severe stomach distress, reducing protein digestion and can lead to chronic amino acid deficiency.
Because of the way today’s soybeans are produced and processed (quickly and cheaply), it doesn’t matter what kind of products you buy, organic or not. They all carry high levels of toxins, and should not be eaten, or eaten very slowly, as they do in Asian cultures. Contrary to popular belief, soy products have never become a staple food in Asian countries. Historically, soy was consumed by poor people during times of extreme food shortages, and then the soybeans were carefully prepared by long fermentation to destroy soy toxins.
The average US vegetarian diet today includes soy in excess of the Asian staple; they generally use small portions of soy to supplement their meals. A typical Asian diet includes natural products, very little fatty meat, large amounts of vegetables and lots of fish. Their diet is also low in chemicals and toxins, as they eat processed foods (canned, canned, frozen).
So, if you think that soy will keep you and your children from gaining weight, think again. These claims come directly from the soy industry that has led us all to believe in its “healthy food” claims. It doesn’t make sense, especially when we know that farmers feed animals with soy to fatten them up for quick slaughter.
Soy also contains a large amount of isoflavones (phytoestrogens), which interfere with the ability of the thyroid gland to make thyroid hormones, and that means weight gain, fatigue and depression. Soy-rich foods are also rich in isoflavones, and don’t get too much. Just one glass of soy milk a day, which is said to contain between 30-45 milligrams, is enough to suppress thyroid function. And with a weak thyroid, you’ll find it even harder to lose weight at all.
It is the isoflavones in soy that are supposed to protect against heart disease, cancer, osteoporosis and menopausal disorders. Not so.
But the most shocking and saddest effect comes from feeding soy to our babies. While everyone knows, breastfeeding is the best thing; mothers today think they are doing their newborns a favor by giving them soy-based milk instead of conventional milk. In fact, it causes great harm to our children.
Babies fed exclusively soy formula have 13,000 to 22,000 times more estrogenic compounds in their blood than formula-fed babies, the estrogenic amount of at least five birth control pills a day. Premature growth in girls has been linked to the use of soy formula, as has stunting in boys.
Mothers who eat soy during pregnancy also put their babies at risk because isoflavones float right through the placenta. This can disturb the hormonal balance, especially in the first three months, when male babies are at an important stage of development and of course they need to have enough testosterone. Other problems associated with both genders of soy formula-fed babies include emotional outbursts, depression, asthma, immune system problems, pituitary insufficiency, thyroid disorders and irritable bowel syndrome.
In general, there are a large number of other health problems that can be associated with eating soy, including: bladder, prostate, colorectal, thyroid and breast cancer; malignant lesions; heart disease; type 2 diabetes; malnutrition; stunted growth; constipation; pancreatic problems; low libido: early puberty; anemia; zinc deficiency; osteoporosis; intestinal damage; mal-absorption and leaky gut syndrome; kidney stones; allergy; death of a child; immune system disorders; thyroid disease – and the list goes on.
The soy industry is a multi-billion dollar industry. And the PR and advertising funding of it as “healthy food” is actually causing a “health problem.” Soy is dangerous — for you, and especially for your children. Don’t fall for their marketing tactics.
