People will tell you that you should accept who you are and not listen to what others think, but I know how you feel. No one likes to be fat. Not everyone can be handsome or pretty or the most popular kid in school, but there’s something about being fat that makes you feel bad. At least it made me feel sad. If you are looking to lose weight, there are some things that can ensure that you are successful.

One is knowing that it will take time. You will not lose weight overnight. If it’s the beginning of the school year, set a New Year’s goal. It’s New Years, set your sights on summer vacations. Depending on how overweight you are, it will take about six months to get the ball rolling. If you start dieting, it’s normal to lose about 5 pounds in the first week or so and then slow down. That’s normal and don’t be discouraged. This is the kind of thing you have to keep doing, even if you don’t seem to be getting results.

Another thing is that you have to be honest with yourself. You should count calories and start exercising. No one will be watching you every minute of the day. Even if you get support from your parents about your diet, when you go to school and have that pizza and cheese for lunch, they won’t know. Only you will know. When you skip that walk or run to watch TV or just relax, you will be the one who suffers the consequences, no one else.

That doesn’t mean you can’t eat junk food. Or if you can’t go out with friends, it just means you need to control what you eat, and make an effort to exercise. If you could do that for six months you could literally lose 40 pounds. My mom lost 60 pounds in six months and wasn’t on a crazy fad diet.
