These days, it seems like everywhere you turn there is a new product or cosmetic procedure that claims to remove wrinkles, restore firmness, restore radiance… the list goes on and on.

But before you try that breakthrough product or visit that hot day at the medical spa there are 3 anti-aging pitfalls you should know about. Falling into one of these, and no matter what products you use, could be undermining your results without even knowing it.

Anti Aging Trap #1- No Passion For Anti Aging Or Full Acceptance Of The Anti Aging Process

“Anti-aging desire?” you say. “I’m definitely interested in anti-aging. Why do you think I’m spending hundreds of dollars on products and procedures?”

Let’s make one thing clear – the passion for anti-aging and looking 10 years younger has nothing to do with how many products you buy or how many visits you schedule with your plastic surgeon. Anti-aging interest starts in the mind:

Example: Every morning when I wake up, the first thing on my mind is the fight against aging. I’m always researching, reading, experimenting with ideas to stay and feel young and energetic. I really enjoy it and not a day goes by without me thinking about anti-aging and trying to look 10 years younger.

Now I know that not everyone can or cannot wake up with anti aging in mind. There are children to go to school, jobs to attend to, bills to pay; the list goes on and on.

But to truly achieve any level of anti-aging, you have to be passionate about it.


Because loving anything, whether it’s looking 10 years younger, losing weight, or getting a raise first comes to mind. The moment you set your mind to achieve something your brain immediately goes into overdrive coming up with ideas to bring this plan to fruition. Curiosity is the fuel that drives this process. The more passionate you are about the idea, the higher the chances are that you will achieve what you desire.

Unfortunately, anti-aging or trying to look 10 years younger or more quickly loses its power. This is because many people feel like there are few options to truly stay young. Once they begin to age, they believe their only options are plastic surgery or Botox. Which brings us to the next anti-aging trap:

Anti Aging Trap #2- Overloading On Plastic Surgery And Cosmetic Procedures

I recently met a 48 year old woman who was clearly addicted to plastic surgery. His face was smooth, thin and without lines. He had no wrinkles on his forehead, eyes or mouth. But guess what? He didn’t look young. She looked like a 48 year old woman who had a lot of work done.

His face was like a mask, even when he smiled. You can see this look on many celebrities (Courtney Cox, Nicole Kidman, Joan Rivers). Maybe that’s why some people think it’s the best way to fight aging. People love to imitate their favorite stars.

Now I am not against plastic surgery. Compared to just 10 years ago, plastic and cosmetic surgery has come a long way in helping people everywhere look and feel younger. And maybe that’s the problem. Because it has become so affordable it is now a quick fix instead of a last resort. Most plastic surgery or cosmetic procedures will not make you look 10 years younger. However it will make you look weird, unnatural and like plastic surgery waste.

Anti Aging Trap #3 Setting the Bar Too Low

When I ask women what they really want to get out of all the efforts they make to stay young, more often than not most of them answer as follows:

“I want to look good for my age.”

The only way I can answer this statement is “Why?”

If you really want to look good for your age, it doesn’t matter if you are 30, 40 or 50+ then I say go for it. You can probably reach your goal in just a few months if you haven’t already. But know this:

You’ll never go to a college sporting event and get interrupted in a coed by 4 different students. You won’t be able to wear a mini skirt and look “age appropriate”. (Sorry to use that phrase. I really hate it but that’s another article.) You’re never going to go jogging and have 3 seventeen year olds on scooters ask what college you’re going to.

Why? Because “looking good for your age” is putting it way too low. You certainly look good, but only for your age. Fits the description: “you throw a girl well”. You want to look for a good time. You want to look so good that no one can tell your age because no one can tell you how old you are.

I know many women 40+ who can and do get distracted by college. Who can still pull off the mini and flip flops. And they don’t have 17-year-old boys waving from their motorbikes and scooters

Now that we’ve discussed the 3 Convenience Traps and how easy it is to fall into them, let’s talk about the good news. Look at the following text:

“Anti Aging for us is a way of life. My wife and I decided a long time ago that we will not grow old. We will eat properly, try new things, take care of our bodies. But most importantly, we put our minds to it and I think we are doing everything right.” – from a 52-year-old man and his 46-year-old wife.

This quote comes from a couple I recently met who I thought were in their thirties. The man told me that he was actually 52 years old and his wife was 46. As crazy as I am against aging, I can estimate people’s ages very well. So this really missed me.

The couple looked, walked and talked like they were 35 years old. And I’m still 35 at that. It was really amazing and I couldn’t stop looking at them.

So how could they look 10 to 15 years younger? Is it possible for them to have plastic surgery?

They were very open and honest about their beauty regimen and maintenance. They told me they “absolutely don’t have Botox”. And no plastic surgery. They both have skin peels every six months to rejuvenate their skin. They don’t eat processed foods and lots of fresh fruits and vegetables. They work out 5 days a week, stretch a lot to stay flexible and agile and stay up to date with the latest in the anti-aging industry.

Everything they were telling me was interesting and their plan was clearly working for them. But I kept coming back to their original quote: “My wife and I decided not to grow old.”

This little statement is one of the main reasons why they are able to stay active and look young. In their minds, they would not accept the aging process and when they had that conviction firmly planted in their minds that started a lifelong plan to fight aging all the time. Once that assurance was firmly in place, everything else that followed became second nature to them.

And that is the true key to anti-aging and staying young and vital. To truly believe that you can. So stay interested in anti-aging, don’t overload on cosmetic and plastic surgery and set that way up. When you avoid these anti aging traps, you will be surprised how quickly your body and mind respond. You could wake up just a few months from now looking 10 years younger.
