Unleash Your Creativity – How To Resurrect Your Creativity This Weekend

When are you frustrated with your level of creativity?

Maybe you’ve dismissed your creative life as a thing of the past, something you look back on now only with the love and desire of a child who remembers his favorite TV shows when he was growing up?

Well it doesn’t have to be this way… No matter what you think, you haven’t forgotten how to be creative.

Maybe you’re out of action a little bit, but that’s about it. We are all born creative and we will all die as creative as we are. Putting those creative talents to use is the most important part.

So, to show you that you have NEVER had to show off your creativity again, here are 3 steps to help you rekindle your creativity this weekend:

Step 1. You know how to create.

The first step is about connecting with the belief that you are creating. Set aside at least 15 minutes for this, preferably 30 or more.

Find a quiet place where you won’t be disturbed with a pen and paper.

Write at the top of the paper: “Yes I do. Here is the proof:”

Then below list all the things you can think of that show off your creativity. And before you complain that you haven’t been creative since, oh about 1857, stop and think. Divide it into different parts. Here are some examples:

10 ways I create at home are ___________________________________

I am creative at work in a way that I ______________________________________

My proudest creative achievement is ___________________________________

My next 5 favorite creative achievements ___________________________________

People say I designed it the way I ______________________________

And so on. Keep writing EVERYTHING you can think of, no matter how unimportant you think it is. The more you write, the more you will think.

Step 2. From small beginnings…

Now you have a huge list of proofs that you CAN be creative. It’s time to do it again. Set aside 15 minutes for this step.

Every great creative achievement began with the smallest twinkle of a vision in the human eye. Your favorite books, music, design, paintings, all started the same way.

So, pick up your pen and paper again and jot down some ideas you’d like to explore in your favorite creative format over the next few weeks. Just pictures, just pictures. You can write a few ideas that you have had for a long time, and you can add others that come to you as you write. Whatever comes to your mind, write it down, and keep writing it down for a period of 15 minutes.

Step 3. Developing a creative habit.

Now you have more confidence in realizing that you have created much more – and therefore are much more creative – than you realized.

And in step 2, guess what? Yes, you’re at it again! You now have a list of ideas that you would like to explore in the coming weeks.

In step 3, you will put a framework in place for creative habits that will enable you to do whatever you want.

Pick a small design project from your list of ideas, don’t spend ages debating, just go with the first one that excites you. Put the whole list away in a safe place.

Now, write this and put it somewhere prominent:

I have committed to spending at least 15 minutes a day (specify time of day) on (write your new creative project here) for the next 7 days.

Decide NOW when you’re going to spend 15 minutes, and do the same amount of time every day, don’t spend every day trying to work out when you can “squeeze it in”, it doesn’t work!

Congratulations! Your creativity is back in business!

Creating creative habits is the only way to be creative and reach your creative potential. Follow the plan above in step 3 and within a week your new creative habit will be well on its way to being established, and creating will be as natural as sleeping and walking…
