While the options here are more limited, these items will keep them from spoiling and have a long shelf life. So in difficult times your family can still survive even if the money is limited.

Also buy dried meats like jerky and canned meats like tuna, salmon, chicken, pork and beef. Also canned vegetables and fruits either home canning or store bought.
