Laser Printer Cartridges

There have been many advances in printing over the years. The laser printer was invented in 1969 at Xerox by an inventor named Gary Starkweather. He had an improved and functional press and press around 1972. The idea came from modifying an existing xerographic printer. Starkweather disables the imaging system, creates an 8-sided rotating drum with a mirror and focuses a laser on the drum. The light from the laser exits the rotating drum, sweeping across the paper as it travels through the copier. The hardware was completed quickly but the software and control interface took longer. The first laser printer was the IBM 3800 in 1976, commonly used for high volume printing such as invoices and mailing labels. It was a very large device but can rightly be called the beginning of laser printers.

The cartridges in most of these printers are usually easy to replace. The laser printer cartridge is designed to simplify things and allow for quick refills and general performance for the printers that come with it. The only issue is, they tend to be expensive and you’re stuck buying the same type the printer is made of. A laser printer cartridge is not replaceable, in most cases if you have an HP printer, you will need an HP printer cartridge.

The difference between ink cartridges and laser cartridges is in the materials used. InkJet printers use a liquid while the toner cartridge used in a laser printer is a powder. Manufacturers use different polymers and formulas to produce a slab of toner, which is then pelletized or crushed and turned into a fine powder. The advantage to using toner ink cartridges is the much wider range of uses that come from laser printers and the toner itself over liquid ink.

The most popular brands of laser printers in my opinion are HP, Brother, Lexmark, Dell and Canon.
