Some big companies are just looking to get a piece of the “Organic pie” – even though they can get away with the rules and call it “Organic baby food” some of them are not good for your baby and are not much better than non-organic products. different types.

Is it certified organic?

Many brands put the word ‘organic’ somewhere on the label without specifying whether or not it is actually organic. Only trusted brands have the word “certified organic” and have the logo somewhere on their label.   • Is it plastic? If so, make sure it’s BPA free.

Supplements like DHA etc

Many baby foods and formulas now contain additional additives – which may sound good for you – but think twice before you believe the marketing hype!

Anything that says “fortified”, “enriched”, “added” or “extra nutrition” etc. etc. the same are needed in a baby’s diet, but if you are breastfeeding (which the AAP recommends until they are 12 months old) then your baby should get all of these from you.

And if you feed your child a variety of organic fruits and vegetables, they will get most of their iron and vitamin needs from food.

Although this may not affect the actual quality of the food, I like to reach out to the company that provides each product to decide if I want to support them with my money. I look for things like-

Are they large or small companies?

I choose to support small companies as they are always ethical, sustainable and local and I feel good knowing I am supporting a family.

Is it a local or international company?

I prefer to support companies from my country – that way I create jobs in my area.

What other products do they sell?

Do they only sell certified organic and other healthy products? Or is it a big company that makes unhealthy baby food and decides to make a natural version of it?

I always don’t support this type of company because in my opinion they probably start making organic baby food for money and market share and not because they really believe in it.

What type of advertising do they use?

Can this company make “junk” sugary or salty foods and still tell consumers they are healthy?

Breakfast food is the worst kind of food for this – many, many cereals and breakfast items are marketed as “healthy” but common sense and a quick look at the sugar ingredients and salt levels will tell you otherwise.

I choose not to support a company that misleads its customers in this way.
